About My Pet Portraits

A Tailored Artistic Experience

For me, creating pet portraits is more than a commission. it’s a way of honouring the deep bond between you and your companion. I know pets aren’t just animals; they’re family, memory-keepers, and sources of everyday joy. That’s why each portrait I create is carefully crafted to capture more than just a likeness. I aim to reflect their spirit, quirks, and presence in a way that feels truly personal. With a deep love for detail and a genuine passion for storytelling through art, I approach every piece with care and intention.

Whether it’s a bouncy puppy, a sleepy senior cat, or a beloved companion who’s no longer by your side, I’m here to create something that holds their memory close. These portraits can be a source of comfort and connection—a way to keep their spirit present in your life. I want the finished work to feel like a window into their personality, a piece that brings warmth, remembrance, and joy every time you look at it.

Gallery of Portraits

Each portrait in this collection represents a unique story and a beloved companion. Here, you’ll find a range of custom pieces created for pet owners who wanted something more than just a photo: a lasting tribute full of personality, emotion, and connection. Whether celebrating the everyday joy of a furry friend or honouring the memory of a pet who’s passed, these illustrations are made to be cherished. You’ll also notice that many of my pieces have minimal or no background. This is a conscious choice. By keeping the background simple, I’m able to place full focus on your pet, letting their personality take center stage without distractions. Sometimes I’ll include a soft wash of color or a few light touches to suggest a setting, but the spotlight always remains on them.

Photo vs Painting Gallery

Every pet has a personality all of their own from the mischievous sparkle in their eyes to the way they tilt their head just so.

In this section, you'll find a series of photo-to-portrait comparisons that showcase how I translate those unique traits into hand-drawn illustrations. My goal is always the same: to capture the heart of who they are.

work with a primary reference photo provided by the pet’s owner that gives me the form and essence of them and use supplementary photos to capture additional details such as an amazing eye colour or unique markings that aren't in focus in the primary photo. Commissioners send me photos of all kinds, these are filled with little details: expressions, postures, even favourite toys that help me bring the portrait to life in an authentic and personal way.

A Unique Twist

For those looking for something a little more playful and storybook-inspired, I also offer a unique twist on traditional pet portraits. I will reimagine your pet as an anthropomorphic character, part animal, part human, brought to life with carefully chosen clothing, posture, and expression that reflect their personality, breed traits, and the essence they carry. All of these personalisations are decided in close consultation with the pet owner: the expert on their pets personality and essence. As with all my commissions you get to approve a sketch so you can ensure the attire is fitting and the illustration captures your pet in every way!

These portraits are painted in watercolour with a gentle, quaint touch, evoking the feel of classic children’s illustrations, yet entirely tailored to your pet. Whether your cat has the quiet dignity of a Victorian poet or your dog has the boundless curiosity of an eccentric inventor, I work closely with each pet's traits to design a character that feels both imaginative and true to who they are.

Here you see one example: a reserved but strong-willed Saluki became a gentle, optimistic scientist: a distingushed fellow. Every piece tells a small story, blending whimsy with heartfelt observation.

These portraits are perfect for those who want to celebrate their pet in a way that’s both deeply personal and delightfully unexpected.

Commision Feedback

Each commission is more than just a portrait, it's a collaboration filled with meaning, memory, and a shared love for the animals we hold dear. I’m incredibly grateful for the kind words clients have shared after receiving their artwork.

Here’s what one lovely customer had to say:

“I was so impressed with the commission for my family dogs, and it was a gift which was hugely appreciated by the recipient. I’m saving up to commission some book art from Amelia, and cannot recommend her enough for being wonderful to work with as well as hugely talented!”
